This is what we, CerroVerde Organic, stand for

A commitment to quality, traceability and sustainability

Nowadays, when it comes to wholefoods/superfoods, by the time most products reach the consumer, they have probably exchanged hands on average 4-5 times, usually from the farmer to the processor to the trader to the distributor then the retailer and finally to the end user. It is not uncommon for each party to lose sight of the product way before it has reached the final customer.

When superfoods first came on the market, at least those from Peru, most were grown using the same methods as had been used for hundreds of years. Maca was grown only in the most fertile soils, without the need for chemical fertilizers to boost nutrients. Cacao was mostly grown under forest canopies, using rudimentary methods.

Since the demand for these products has increased, it is only rational that more parties would enter the market, parties which are looking to increase margins by adopting large scale agro practices. These practices will often have unforeseen effects on crops as has been the case in Ecuador and Peru where the growth of Cacao as a commodity has led to the emergence of several hard to tackle pests.

At CerroVerde Organic we will track the movement of all our Peruvian products from their primary source, be it a maca field in the Andes or a cacao farm in the Amazon jungle, and by doing so gather as much information as possible about the crop and the methods used in its production.

In the case of the products we do not source from Peru, where we have an on the ground presence, we do our best to monitor all products quality through microbial testing, heavy metals and pesticide testing (we offer independent pesticide testing on all our product lots) and we only partner with those suppliers who match our quality standards.

5 years of experience in the superfoods industry as growers, processors, exporters, importers, manufacturers, packagers and retailers. We’ve grown our own maca and sold our own brand online and understand every link in the supply chain.

12x times more quality control methods methods than many suppliers. We conduct microbiological, heavy metals and full pesticide analysis on all batches pre and post production at source. We ensure nothing slips our net.

20x times faster than ordering from Peru if you are a EU customer. We hold stocks of Peruvian products in the EU, in order to guarantee supply in the event of demand spikes or supply shortages.

100% Organic Zero tolerance to pesticides in all our Peruvian products. We test every exportation for pesticide residues pre and post production.

  • We are constantly learning

In order to pass on our acquired knowledge to customers, partners and producers we are always looking to stay aware of emerging issues at source and learn from our experiences.

  • Quality control at source, pre-processing and pre-shipping

We have carried out an exhaustive mapping (including G.I.S mapping) of our partner cacao cooperatives and aim to implement this across all products. We conduct thorough pesticide testing at the source of the raw produce, during processing and at the port prior to shipping. We are always on the look out for evidence of contamination, pesticide use and non-ethical operations.

  • We gather as much information as possible on our products and crops

Our goal is to share this information with our customers, partners and suppliers. Whether the appearance of new pests, new trends in pesticides or particular flavor profiles for certain crops. With regard to cocoa, we take care of mapping the land within a cooperative to understand each nuance, something that can affect the profile and the quality of the flavor. We understand that when it comes to food ingredients, every small variation can be of vital importance.

  • We offer full traceability on all Peruvian products

We know our products have come from areas/crops we have personally checked for quality, true organic status and compliance with ethically sound practices.

  • We aim to give back to areas we source from

At CerroVerde Organic, we believe that by positively influencing the areas from which we obtain our raw material, whether financially, through knowledge and feedback or fostering ecologically sustainable practices, we are not only helping to establish long-term relationships based on mutual benefit. , but we also help protect fragile ecosystems from where we get many products.

  • Caring about what we do

As a Peruvian company, we care about our country and we are committed to reducing the impact that agriculture is having on the fragile ecosystems where we obtain our raw material. We are a corporate sponsor of the World Land Trust and Naturaleza y Cultura Internacional, but don’t stop there, we go the extra mile and only source from those who share our ethos.
